Step into the Botanic Gardens and immerse yourself in the delicate art of nature sketching with professionally trained botanical illustrator Kate Simson in this hands-on workshop.
Through the expressive medium of graphite and coloured pencils, we will explore the fundamental principles of form, perspective, and tonal rendering to capture the organic beauty of the natural world. Inspired by an array of carefully selected natural specimens, you’ll have the opportunity to observe, interpret, and translate intricate details onto paper with sensitivity and confidence.
Whether refining your foundational techniques or deepening your artistic practice, this workshop offers a welcoming space for both beginners and early intermediate artists. Join us for a creative exploration of nature’s forms, textures, and subtle tonal shifts, all through the meditative and rewarding process of drawing.
About the Artist
Kate is a natural history illustrator, specialising in the intricate depiction of flora and fauna. Holding a Bachelor of Natural History Illustration, she combines scientific accuracy with artistic expression. Her work celebrates the beauty of the natural world, offering detailed, lifelike representations that educate and inspire.

This workshop is part of Coffs Harbour Libraries’ Sustainable Living Series and Seed Library Collection, offering hands-on experiences that foster environmental awareness and creative engagement with nature. It encourages participants to observe and appreciate plant life cycles, just as seed-saving supports biodiversity & self-sufficiency.
