Spring is well under way which is a signal for new beginnings and of course a new chapter for Coffs Harbour Libraries with a brand new Harry Bailey Memorial Library at Yarrila Place. With the opening of the new library our staff have all been extremely busy and always enjoy their down-time with a good read or DVD series too. Here are some of their current recommendations. 

Sam-Neill.jpg Donna really loved audiobook Did I ever tell you this?: a memoir/ by Sam Neill from Libby. Sam’s wry offbeat and self-deprecating humour made this very enjoyable.

My_brilliant_Friend.jpg Sue has been watching My Brilliant Friend, a TV series adaptation from the four book series titled the Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante - ‘My Brilliant Friend’ is the title of the first novel. Set in Naples, Italy and beginning in the 1950’s this is a slow moving coming of age drama following the friendship of two young girls through to adulthood. Full of twists and turns and insight into the complexity of life-long friendships.

 Shana just finished the Inheritance Games trilogy by Jennifer Lyn Barnes on Borrowbox and Cloud Library. A teenage girl inherits billions from Tobias Hawthorne, on the condition that she must live in his mansion (with his sons) for one year.  It's a fun YA romp full of secrets, riddles and intrigue. Perfect escapism.

Get-messy-art.jpg Get messy art: the no-rules, no-judgment, and no-pressure approach to making art  is a wonderful resource for artists feeling stuck in their creative processes. Great for journalling also. Easy to follow and no need for expensive supplies! Jackie recommends this book to anyone who loves arts and crafts as well as those looking for something a little different. Bonus book binding workshop to boot - I have enjoyed every page.

Matthew-Perry.jpg Rhy read Matthew Perry’s Bio, Friends, lovers and the big terrible thing: a memoir.

The TV show ‘Friends’ was one of my favourite shows growing up. As a big fan of Matthew Perry, naturally I had to read his new bio ‘Friends, lovers and the big terrible thing’. I knew of his struggle with addiction but to read about his daily battle to stay sober in Matthew’s own words was next level. I whole heartedly recommend this book to anyone who loves the TV show…or Matthew Perry.

Candice-Warner.jpg Lulu listened to memoir Running strong: falling, rising, breathing by Candice Warner from BorrowBox. A former Ironwoman and wife of cricketer David Warner, Candice hit the headlines after an episode with a famous football star. It is her warts and all life story and sobering to hear her side.

The-dogs-that-made-australia.jpg Kate has been listening to Guy Hull’s The dogs that made Australia through Borrowbox. It was a great introduction to the dogs who contributed to the building of the Australia we have today. Guy Hull narrates it too and his dry humour comes through for a hilarious retelling.
