NAIDOC Week features on the calendar this month so we asked staff if they had any recommendations in celebration of this.

Rangers_Apprentice.jpg Rowan of Rin series by Emily Rodda

Ranger’s Apprentice series by John Flanagan

These are my two favourite children’s books series. For older readers they are set in mythical distant lands. I loved them because my heart sings when I read them. I fell in love with the Characters in the books and the setting.

I have always loved the illustrations and the hidden images! A great book for younger and older kids (and adults)

Mikki and Me and the out of tune tree
by Marion Roberts

I just finished reading this with my 8 year old daughter. A beautiful story about an 11-year-old girl who has a lot going on in her personal and family life. Despite all this, or perhaps to “escape” from everything going on, she teams up with budding filmmaker Mikki and creates a YouTube channel that brings the whole community together in the hope to save some trees from being removed.

PossumMagic.jpg Koala Lou & Possum Magic
by Mem Fox

I have always loved Koala Lou & Possum Magic by Mem Fox, and they were two of my kids favourite stories. We loved the Australian aspect to them, the themes and the beautiful illustrations. I even took my old copies when Mem Fox came and gave an author talk for Coffs Library (we had to move it to Bishop Druitt because there were so many people!), and she signed them for me!
